The Packers are not willing to give up a home game to play overseas and other teams don’t want to lose a home date against a team that’s historically been a popular attraction.“Nobody wants to give up a home game with the Packers because they know it’s going to be a full house … We’re not going to give up a home game, because we’re sold out for the next 30 years,” Rodgers said.Rodgers said he hopes the league will “intervene” and force the situation. In 2020, the Packers are set to play road games against three teams — the Texans, Buccaneers and Bears — who will play in London next season. If none of them get another trip and the Packers still aren’t giving up a home date Corey Linsley Jersey , the Vikings, Lions, Saints, Colts and a NFC West opponent to be determined would be the other options for getting Green Bay over the Atlantic.

The Minnesota Vikings enter tonight’s ‘dress rehearsal’ game with Seattle needing answers at some key positions on both sides of the ball. Injuries have muddied some waters Womens Adam Thielen Jersey , excellent play has muddied others, but tonight we should get some clarity on who will get an inside track on winning a starting job or a roster spot.Let’s take a look at some key battles.Offensive Line: Things here have settled down a bit, as Mike Remmers and Rashod Hill have returned to practice. Whether they play tonight or not remains to be seen, and Pat Elflein has yet to come off the PUP list, but overall things are looking up here. However, there’s still the starting LG position that needs to be decided, and maybe even the starting RT job. At LG, Tom Compton is still shown atop the depth chart, but Danny Isidora and Aviante Collins have looked good playing there as well. All three have been somewhat inconsistent, though, and I don’t think Compton has this job secured yet. Between the three, I think you can make an argument for either one to be starting, and if you make me rank order them I think I’d go Collins, Isidora a close second Mike Remmers Jersey , and then Compton right now. But if you ask me again in ten minutes, that could change, that’s how close I think these guys are to one another. If you like Compton’s flexibility to play guard and tackle, it might be between Isidora and Collins, though. I honestly believe any one of these three guys can win this job. Hopefully we’ll know more by the end of tonight’s game. Brian O’Neill, the second round pick who was supposed to be a year away from starting at tackle, has looked really good at times, both in camp and during the first two games. He’s made the most of this opportunity with Hill out, and has steadily improved since camp began. But is it enough? If Hill looks good tonight I think the job is probably his, but O’Neill still has an opportunity.Third Running Back: Roc Thomas or Mike Boone? Each guy has looked really good at times, and this is the most heated roster spot left. Thomas flashed in the preseason opener, but Boone made up a ton of ground last week. Thomas seems to be the better fit in this offense in terms of being a runner and a pass catcher, but holy smokes is Boone a violent, downhill runner http://www.thevikingslockerroom.com/authentic-marcus-sherels-jersey , and his stiffarm is football sex. Even though Latavius Murray fumbled twice last week, his spot as the primary backup to Dalvin Cook seems secure, so one of Thomas or Boone is probably going to get cut. Whoever plays well tonight gets the inside track to the job.Fourth Wide Receiver: After the top three of Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, and Laquon Treadwell...I have no idea who will win the last one or two spots here. Kendall Wright? He seemed like a sure thing as a free agent acquisition, but he really hasn’t done a whole lot. Cayleb Jones? He’s going to be suspended for the first four games. Brandon Zylstra? He’s been hurt most of camp and has been largely forgotten. He’ll finally get some game action tonight so maybe he can make a case for himself. Chad Beebe? He had a touchdown against Denver, and has made some noise, but is it enough? Stacy Coley? He seems fairly secure, but it’s not like he’s gone out and grabbed a spot, either. There’s still a lot of uncertainty here, and the first guy to step out from the masses is going to be the guy that takes the lead for the last spot or two.Defensive Line: Things are starting to look uphill for fourth round draft pick Jalyn Holmes (he went to Ohio State, in case you were wondering). He’s been injured, and that allowed Jaleel Johnson and Ifeadi Odenigbo to state their cases for a roster spot...and have they ever. I think Johnson’s spot was fairly secure coming in to training camp, and this was always going to be a battle between Odenigbo and Holmes Womens Brian O'Neill Jersey , to be honest. The OSU fan in me wants them to keep Holmes, because I honestly think he’s good...but if they do it would be based on potential and the fact he was a fourth round pick, not based on him out-performing Odenigbo and Johnson so far this preseason. He’s clearly third in a two horse race right now, and unless there is a steep and rapid reversal of fortune, it feels like Holmes has too much ground to make up.Safety: This seemed pretty cut and dried until the surprise signing of George Iloka a couple of days ago. Harrison Smith and Andrew Sendejo are safe (duh), and I expect Iloka to be rotated in between the two spots or have the Vikings draw up some looks using all three guys on the field at once. But that means either Anthony Harris or Jayron Kearse need to be really worried right about now, and Harris has a distinct edge here. Harris played the most snaps of any defender in the Jaguars game (60, or 76% of the game), and Kearse didn’t even play. The writing is on the wall for Kearse, it seems. The Minnesota Vikings blew out the Miami Dolphins 41-17 on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium. There were a lot of positive takeaways from Sunday’s contest and if you want a breakdown of the game, the Daily Norseman has a recap for you here. I’ll have some notebook type thoughts that I saw throughout the game, nothing to fancy, but just some more post-win readings and some more material to spark conversation for the readers. I’ll break it down with a few takes from the offense, defense and special teams:Offense:I can’t say the Vikings soared offensively because of interim offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski Rashod Hill Jersey , and I can’t say it would be the same story if John DeFilippo was calling plays. Regardless, the offense had a type of spark that I haven’t really seen this season. Minnesota jammed the run game down the throat of the defense throughout the game and it was such a relief to see. The Vikings ended the day with 204 rushing yards off 34 carries between Latavius Murray and Dalvin Cook. Cook absolutely took advantage of his carries as he averaged 7.2 yards per tote off 19 carries, and managed two touchdowns. Well, look here— Kirk Cousins only threw the ball 21 times for 215 yards and Minnesota still came out with a win. Head coach Mike Zimmer was looking for some balance on offense, and that definitely happened. Defense:What's there not to say about the defensive performance. Nine total sacks on the day... NINE! It’s pretty obvious that Ryan Tannehill was used as a tackling dummy. There was a point where I saw the Dolphins’ offensive line gassed and that’s when fresh legs like Danielle Hunter and Sheldon Richardson got rotated into the game. You could see the depth and stamina our defense had compared to Miami’s offense. The defense only allowed ten points all game and shutout Miami in the first and fourth quarter. Anthony Barr led the team with seven tackles and managed two sacks.Other than that 75-yard touchdown run by Miami running back Kalen Ballage, the Vikings managed to hold Miami to only 81 rushing yards. Tannehill only managed a little over 100 yards passing, the second lowest this season for him. Special Teams:Wooohoooo. I swear, I never hear a fanbase cheer louder after a made extra point than Vikings fans. Dan Bailey made all five of his extra points and hit both of his field goals. So it’s always nice when you can finally breathe. Marcus Sherels was a tank on the punt return. He returned four punts for 116 yards, averaging about 23 yards per return. He did break loose for a big 70-yard return. He holds the record for most punt return yards in a game with 119. That was back in 2013 when Minnesota faced the New York Giants. Moving forward:Hopefully the momentum can continue heading into next week’s matchup against Detroit. The Vikings still control the sixth seed in the NFC, so although Detroit isn’t having the best season the Vikings still need to be in top-form.

EAST RUTHERFORD White Trumaine Johnson Jerseys , N.J. 鈥?Sam Darnold has been a fan of Aaron Rodgers for years and wouldn’t mind following in his footsteps on the field. And, on the small screen.More Packers coverageGreen Bay Packers 2019 NFL draft capsulesPackers close out 2019 draft, select LB Summers in seventh roundPackers add CB Hollman, RB Williams in sixth roundPackers address defense in fifth round, select DL Kingsley KekePackers use third-round pick to select TE Jace SternbergerThe New York Jets rookie quarterback watched film of NFL stars while he was developing his own skills as a signal caller in high school, in college at USC and even now as a pro himself. One of the most frequently viewed players in Darnold’s studies has been Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers‘ two-time MVP.“Just the way he’s able to see the field so fast,” Darnold said. “It’s almost like he knows what the defense is going to do before the snap. For him, it looks so easy and so effortless. He has probably the best arm talent that I’ve ever seen, debatably, in NFL history.”Darnold also gives Rodgers a rousing review for his work over the years in a series of TV commercials for an insurance company.“He’s a great actor,” Darnold said with a big smile. “I think he’ll be a good actor one day and his TV commercials look pretty funny. So yeah, I envy his ability to go in front of camera and do that kind of stuff. Hopefully one day I can do that, too. I think one day actually he’ll be a great actor.”The Jets (4-10) host Rodgers and the Packers (5-8-1) on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in game that has no playoff implications with both teams out of the postseason picture.聽Rodgers still expects to play聽despite dealing with a sore groin that very well could have had the 35-year-old star decide to pack it in for the season.“I’m super competitive,” Rodgers said, “and I want to be out there with the guys Trumaine Johnson Jerseys 2019 , and I look forward to being out there.”The Packers are 1-1 under interim coach Joe Philbin, who replaced the fired Mike McCarthy. They are trying to snap a nine-game road losing streak, dating to last season. A loss to New York would mark the first time Green Bay would go through a season winless away from Lambeau Field since the 1958 squad, and the sixth time in franchise history.“Yeah, I think it’s important for us to not be a statistic next to the (1958) Packers,” Rodgers said. “It’s disappointing. It’s frustrating. It would be good for our confidence and for the young guys to feel what that post-win locker room, bus ride, plane flight back feels like, and take it with us in the future.”Here are other things to know about the Packers-Jets matchup:TAKING OFFDarnold has two straight solid games聽after missing three with a foot injury. The No. 3 overall draft pick聽has thrown three touchdown passes and just one interception since returning聽, and has made plays with his legs while giving the Jets leads in the fourth quarter of both games.“I didn’t want the time off, I wanted to keep going, I wanted to keep getting experience,” Darnold said. “But that’s what happened. I felt like for me, I truly believe everything happens for a reason.”ADAMS’ ASCENTHere’s one reason for Rodgers to play even if the Packers are already eliminated: receiver Davante Adams has a chance to set a couple franchise records.Already at 100 catches for the first time in his career with two games left, Adams needs 13 to break the club mark set by Sterling Sharpe in 1993. At 1,315 yards White Terrelle Pryor Sr. Jerseys , Adams is 205 away from breaking the single-season club record held by former teammate Jordy Nelson (1,519 in 2014). Adams also earned his second Pro Bowl nod this year, though his first as an original selection.“To be able to rise and do the things that I’ve dreamed of, obviously I feel like I’m still scratching the surface now, I’m nowhere near my prime,” Adams said.VERY SPECIAL TEAMSPerhaps the Jets’ biggest surprise has been the overall play of their special teams unit. Two of the standouts on that squad were selected to their first career Pro Bowls.Return specialist Andre Roberts聽, a nine-year veteran, leads the NFL in kick return yards (912) and ranks second in punt return yards (312). He has eight returns of 40 or more yards to lead the league.Jason Myers missed two extra points vs. Houston, but will also be headed to Orlando 鈥?the first kicker to represent the Jets at the Pro Bowl 鈥?after a season full of long kicks.聽He has five field goals of 55 yards or more聽, the most in one season in NFL history.HANDOFF HEADACHESThe Packers have some big-time backfield question marks.Leading rusher Aaron Jones went on injured reserve this week聽with a knee injury. Jamaal Williams, the only other running back who has been on the active roster all season, was limited in practice this week with a toe injury.Williams, who started at the beginning of the season, would likely take back the job 鈥?if healthy. Kapri Bibbs, claimed off waivers from the Redskins this week, may be pressed into service if he can get up to speed quickly in practice.ON THE LINEA defensive line considered a strength at the beginning of the year has been ravaged by injuries. Muhammad Wilkerson and Mike Daniels went on injured reserve earlier this year Terrelle Pryor Sr. Jerseys 2019 , and emerging third-year player Kenny Clark missed last week’s loss to the Bears with an elbow injury. That has left coordinator Mike Pettine starting third-year player Dean Lowry and undrafted rookie free agent Tyler Lancaster. Le'Veon Bell was among the topics of conversation at Jets head coach Adam Gase’s press conference on Thursday and Bell was paying attention to what Gase had to say.Gase was asked about reports that he feels the team overpaid for Bell and whether he’d consider trading him now that he’s the interim General Manager in the wake of Mike Maccagnan’s ouster. Gase called the trade notion “ridiculous” and said that everyone with the team was excited to have Bell on the roster.Bell took note of a tweet relaying those comments. The running back responded positively with emojis and a message of “let’s get it coach.”Gase also said that he’s been in “constant contact” with Bell about his training program as Bell is working out on his own at the moment. Bell shared a video of one of those workouts shortly after his response to Gase’s comments and he’s expected to stick to that plan until next month’s mandatory minicamp.

George Asafo-Adjei NFL Draft , Seattle, and the Motor City, and taking in some rarefied air in western New York. That’s what happens when your hapless, helpless and hopeless football teams suddenly turn nasty, effective and victorious. Most shocking, no doubt, was what the Bills did to the Vikings . After being the brunt of so many jokes the last two weeks following inept showings, then exacerbating it by tweeting an image of their helmet traveling to meet the Vikings’ helmet — in Wisconsin — the Bills dominated in Minnesota. To boot, they were 16-point underdogs, making them the sixth team in the last 81 games with such a spread to pull off an upset.Where did that come from?Well, cynics will say the Vikings were coming off that emotional tie with Green Bay and face the NFL’s most powerful squad in a short week when they host the Rams on Thursday night. The folks in Buffalo will tell you the Bills, who broke a 17-season drought of playoff appearances last winter, aren’t as bad as they’ve looked.“No one thought that we were going to come in here and play the way that we did, except the people in this locker room now,” offensive tackle Dion Dawkins said, and he was right, particularly about the oddsmakers. “We came into the game fueled and ready to play.”Say what you will about their forgettable first two outings, the Bills proved a lot Sunday. A team in turmoil, missing its best offensive player in injured running back LeSean McCoy George Asafo-Adjei Buffalo Bills Jersey , seemingly a sieve on defense, manhandled one of the Super Bowl favorites. With a raw rookie quarterback, too.“We really don’t really pay attention to what people think about us,” linebacker Lorenzo Alexander said. “It’s all about internal belief and confidence. If you listen to outside noise, we’d never win a game because nobody respects Buffalo at all. We have to continue to go out and earn that respect.”Eli Manning has earned plenty of respect — and two Super Bowl rings — in a borderline Hall of Fame career. What he’s earned the last year or so has been doubters that he had anything left.At Houston, he showed when given any sort of protection by the Giants, he can be productive and a winner. Manning was besieged in the first two defeats, either sacked or hit or pressured so much he barely got the snap before he was inundated. Against the Texans, and with 2015 first-round draft pick Ereck Flowers wisely benched at right tackle, Manning had some of the best numbers of his career: 25 for 29 for 297 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with nine receivers.“I thought we kind of condensed the offense a little bit and made sure guys knew what they were doing,” said Manning, pointing out without saying as much that the Giants were slow to react in losses to Jacksonville and Dallas. “Plays that they knew, they were playing fast, the offensive line was playing fast and we have good players, just let them go play. Let’s not try to be perfect and trick or do too much. Let our guys go win, because we got good athletes.”Seattle once had as talented a roster as any team, winning one Super Bowl that should have been two, and dominating the NFC West. With defections, injuries and retirements Infant Christopher Slayton Jersey , though, these Seahawks need to succeed with guile, grit and coaching acumen. In their first home game, the Seahawks showed they still have a huge advantage at CenturyLink Field, especially when they get going quickly. The Cowboys, coming off a masterful manhandling of the Giants last weekend, ran into a buzzsaw. The 24-13 whooping the Seahawks put on the Cowboys was reminiscent of past Pete Carroll teams. They played with an edge that has marked his squads since his Southern Cal days.“We were trying to get to our formula, and we just didn’t get started well in the first couple games,” Carroll said.“But this is how we want to play. “The day of relief was completed Sunday night when the Lions stunned the Patriots 26-10 as Matt Patricia got his first victory as a head coach — besting his boss while he was leading the New England defense, Bill Belichick.Detroit fans believed their team’s prospects heading into 2018 were solid in a tough division. Then they fell flat in the opener against the Jets — yes, the Jets won at Ford Field and the Patriots lost. Last week, the Lions lost at San Francisco. But now, a sigh of relief that could be felt along all the Great Lakes, and a further belief that Detroit can compete in an NFC North where the Vikings and Packers have struggled, too, and the Bears lead at 2-1.Followers of the Bills, Giants, Seahawks and Lions also can take comfort in knowing there are three 0-3 teams out there: the Raiders, Texans and Cardinals. They might even feel some empathy for fans in Oakland Christopher Slayton Jersey Draft , Houston and Arizona. If the Eagles had won Sunday, Jalen Mills likely would have been an afterthought. But they didn’t, so the cornerback is taking heat from fans.“I hear it from y’all. Y’all hear it from people. I don’t buy into it. It is what it is,” Mills, 24, said, via Les Bowen of philly.com. “I set a standard for myself last year, and that’s what people want to see. At the same time, I’m a perfectionist. I want to be perfect in everything I do.”Mills allowed a 68-yard completion to Adam Thielen to set up a field goal, biting on a double move. The Vikings receiver finished with seven catches for 116 yards as Minnesota passed for 298 yards. Thus, Mills and the secondary became the target of fan displeasure. Mills doesn’t care about what others outside the locker room say or think. He does care about playing better, playing his best.“I’m not worried about it,” Mills said of criticism. “At the end of the day, you’ve got to know who you are. You’ve got to know things are going to happen [to defensive backs].“At the same time, we set a standard for ourselves from last year. into Lambeau Field for the team’s second home game in a row. Last week Kentrell Brice Jersey , the Packers held off the Minnesota Vikings’ surge late in the game, and the Broncos lost to the Bears on a late second field goal that was set up by a questionable roughing the passer call. As expected, Packers linebacker Oren Burks is out again, still dealing with a chest injury. Meanwhile, speculation brewed this week as Lane Taylor was limited in practice and it has been confirmed that he will not play on Sunday. This means second round draft pick Elgton Jenkins will make his first start. With Jimmy Graham questionable, we may see more of Robert Tonyan in the passing game but Graham is still likely to play. Evan Baylis was promoted from the practice squad and he may also see some snaps against Denver. One player to watch is Kyler Fackrell. He has been a solid part of the defense through the first two weeks of the season, and losing him could hurt the depth on the edge. Jake Kumerow is also questionable, and the lack of wide receiver depth could not come at worse time if he is unable to go.On the other sideline, the Broncos were concerned about receiver Courtland Sutton’s health this week but he was a full participant in practice and will play Sunday. CB Bryce Callahan is listed as questionable Geronimo Allison Jersey , which could be a boost for the Packers wide receivers looking to have a breakout game, as is starting linebacker Todd Davis. With RT Ja’Wuan James out, the Broncos are going to have difficulty stopping the Packers pass rush which has been one of the best through two weeks.Packers Injury ReportOut ILB Oren Burks (chest) G Lane Taylor ( biceps)DoubtfulDL Montravius Adams (shoulder)Questionable LB Kyler Fackrell (shoulder)TE Jimmy Graham (groin)WR Jake Kumerow (shoulder)WR Darius Shepherd (hamstring)Broncos Injury Report Out RT Ja’Wuan James (knee)FB Andy Janovich (pectoral)ILB Joe Jones (triceps)Questionable ILB Todd Davis (calf)CB Bryce Callahan (foot) GREEN BAY, Wis. 鈥?Mike Pettine is staying as defensive coordinator of the Packers.More Packers coveragePackers at Bears to open 2019 scheduleTop Tweets: Brewers make hilarious ‘Mean Girls’ parody videoMatthews signs with Rams after 10 years with PackersPackers re-sign tight end Marcedes LewisTop Tweets: Nikola Mirotic loves being a Milwaukee BuckNew coach Matt LaFleur announced the decision Friday, answering one of his biggest questions just three days after being hired. In his first year, Pettine installed a 3-4 scheme and had mixed results. First-round draft pick Jaire Alexander showed signs he will become the top cornerback the Packers desperately need, and Green Bay was ranked No. 12 in pass defense (234.5 yards per game), a big improvement over 2017.Green Bay finished 6-9-1 and out of the playoffs for the second straight year. As the Packers wrapped up for the offseason last week, Pettine said he was hoping to return to keep building.“Of course Aaron Jones Jersey , the foundation is the hardest thing to get right, and I feel that a lot of it has been built 鈥?and we’ve made a lot of mistakes,” he said. “I think we learned, especially me personally, too, I’ve learned a lot of cases of what not to do versus what to do.”The Packers did pile up 44 sacks, tied for eighth in the league, though injuries struck the defensive line. Green Bay lacked a consistent rush at outside linebacker except for surprise sacks leader Kyler Fackrell (10陆).“I like his scheme,” Fackrell said last week. “There were a lot of things that went against us this year with a ton of injuries Lane Taylor Jersey , a ton of new guys. I think the way that he was able to still keep us playing pretty well, I think he did a great job.”Defensive lineman Kenny Clark also liked the new scheme, which saw 17 different players get at least a half-sack.“I had my best season under coach Pettine, and just the blitzes and the different disguises and the different he can do to free people up 鈥?it’s been great for me,” he said. “He’s been using a lot of our strengths on the field.”Longtime defensive star Clay Matthews is a free agent after finishing with a career-low 3陆 sacks in his 10th season with the Packers.

The only other QB with 50 was Tom Brady in 2007.—Arnie Stapleton reporting from Denver. Some former players from the failed-AAF are starting to find new homes"The Minnesota Vikings signed two players from the gone-too-soon Alliance of American Football on Friday. Minnesota added former San Antonio Commanders safety Derron Smith and cornerback Duke Thomas. Safety Derron SmithThe 27-year-old played in seven games with San Antonio, he recorded 21 tackles and three interceptions. The Fresno State alum was a sixth-round draft pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015. Smith played in 31 games for the Bengals and seven with the Cleveland Browns. Smith has only recorded 7 tackles Garrett Bradbury black jersey , a fumble recovery and one deflected pass in his NFL career. It would only seem that he would be an addition to the practice squad. He hasn’t been on an NFL roster since 2017 when he was with the Browns. The three-time First-Team Mountain-West selection recorded 253 tackles in his last three seasons at Fresno State. Cornerback Duke Thomas The 24-year-old undrafted journeyman has circled his way back to the NFL. The Texas Longhorns alum was on the Houston Texans and Philadelphia Eagles practice squads in 2016 before sitting out a season due to an injury. In 2018, he made a trip to the Canadian Football League where he spent a season on Toronto’s practice squad. Thomas led the Commanders with 22-tackles along with an interception and a fumble recovery in seven games. Thomas was a three-year starter at Texas and spent time at the nickel position as a senior. The two-time All-Big 12 Honorable Mention played in all 51 games and started in 35. Thomas would occasionally handle kickoff and punt returns for the Longhorns during his last three years. fix their offense Now that the dust has settled on the Jets’ loss to Cleveland http://www.jetslockerroom.com/authentic-jamal-adams-jersey , it’s apparent that most fans are frustrated with the offensive system, which so far has been too conservative and predictable. However, when you have an offense that’s conservative and predictable, this affords you an opportunity to run tendency-breakers that will exploit an overly aggressive defense that thinks it knows what’s coming. This arguably shouldn’t be the Jets’ thought process anyway. If they trusted their offensive talent to execute and win match-ups, then they could have success with more conventional plays instead of having to resort to smoke-and-mirrors to enjoy any success. However, that’s a debate for another day. For today, we’re going to consider some creative ways for the Jets to get their offense going again.Re-establishing the Sam Darnold/Robby Anderson connectionThe downfield threat of Robby Anderson was one of the strengths of last year’s offense. He caught 11 passes more than 20 yards downfield, including seven touchdowns per ESPN. So far in 2018, including preseason, the only downfield connection to Anderson was the opening day touchdown. In that same game, the Jets ran a groan-inducing end-around to Anderson on 3rd-and-short, a play which foreshadowed the possibility that the Jets might try and out-think their opponent rather than just out-executing them in key situations. So far, that seems to be coming to fruition. However, if you’re going to think outside the box, why not try really thinking outside the box. Here’s that play:Terrible, right? But this is easily fixed.Boom! All Anderson has to do is pivot and throw it back across the field to Darnold and it’s a walk-in 31-yard touchdown.Show ‘em who’s tossOne of the two staple plays from the Jets’ offensive gameplan against the Browns was a running back toss play, with which they had some decent success. Here’s an example:Predictably, the Browns adjusted to this and started overloading the left side, anticipating blocks in space and stretching out the runs to the edge. In theory, this should have opened up a lot of things for the Jets. Cutback runs with the defensive line stretched Brian Winters Jersey , play action roll-out bootlegs and even running back option passes could all have had success with the defense anticipating these plays. However, we’re considering a more subtle tweak:Nothing else changes, even the success of the play, which still goes for a short gain. However, the benefits of this are two-fold.First of all, it counts as a forward pass, thereby boosting Darnold’s completion percentage and yardage totals and limiting some of the media and fan criticisms and the resulting damage to his psyche. The Jets ran some version of this play seven times for 33 yards. If these were all forward passes, Darnold’s number can be artificially inflated from a confidence-destroying 15-for-31 and 169 yards to a far more impressive sounding 22-for-38 and 202 yards. Also, since dropped toss would simply be called as an incomplete pass, it eradicates the risk of a turnover. As both the Jets and Isaiah Crowell know, this can be costly:A high school-level adjustmentAs with the toss stretch runs, the success of the receiver screens to Quincy Enunwa could have opened up some other things. For example, the line becomes stretched out, so you can fake the throw and then run a delayed draw up the middle, a quarterback draw or even a statue of liberty-type play. What might have been more effective, though, is a variation on the play the Jets used successfully against the Browns last year. If the play is set up like a wide receiver screen and the defender reads that and tries to get out in front of the block, it leaves them susceptible to the pass over the top:It’s a different set up to the play the Jets were using to get yardage out of Enunwa, which saw the Jets have two receivers on each side. However, a similar pump-and-go from Darnold out of that same look could have gone for a big play to Jermaine Kearse in the same fashion if Kearse had whiffed on his block (deliberately) and then kept going. The Jets’ lone attempt to break this tendency was much less creative and arguably somewhat amateurish. They simply moved Enunwa to the other side and faked the same play to Anderson first Womens Wayne Chrebet Jersey , before coming back to the other side. The Browns were all over this and the pass was tipped and almost intercepted.Improving Jeremy Bates’ favorite playAfter the Lions game, offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates was asked what his favorite play was and he said it was the victory formation kneeldown at the end of the game.Obviously that’s a play every Jets fan want to see the Jets running at the end of wins, but this is yet another play the Jets run too often in the Todd Bowles era.How many times have we seen the Jets not even attempt to score at the end of the half even when there’s plenty of time on the clock? Even if you don’t score, it still gives a young quarterback a chance for some reps, in-game training where ball security is at a premium and a chance to make some easy throws to get some momentum to carry into the second half. However, the Jets will often just take a knee, even in situations where other teams never would, like at the end of the Broncos game last year and when camped on the goal line with plenty of time left in the Lions game. So, why not exploit this and run a play which is becoming increasingly fashionable in the collegiate ranks?Run this from your own 35 with about 30 seconds left to someone like Trenton Cannon and you could get yourselves into striking range with time remaining on the clock. Ultimately, there’s no real downside either.Sooner or later, maybe even before this article gets published, an NFL team will run this play successfully and then it will never work again because everyone will be ready for it. Maybe the Jets should be first.Alternatively, they could just open up the playbook a bit and let guys like Darnold and Anderson display some of the talents the entire staff spent the whole summer talking up. Perhaps do that. Michael Nania takes a look at two of the top inside linebacker targets for the Jets"Welcome to the 2019 Jets Free Agency Profile series! Up until the start of the 2019 free agency period in March, I’ll be running through a bunch of names the Jets could potentially bring in with their hoard of cap space. Let’s get into it!Inside linebacker is not near the top of the list of needs for the Jets, but it isn’t an untouchable position, either. Avery Williamson and Darron Lee made up a decent duo last year, but it’s far from formidable, as both players have their share of weaknesses and are rather one-dimensional.With the Jets sticking in a 3-4 base, I’m OK if inside linebacker isn’t addressed and the Jets head into 2019 with that aforementioned pair, but there are a couple of names on the free agent market that caught my eye.If the Jets think one of these guys can be a substantial upgrade over Lee http://www.jetslockerroom.com/authentic-quincy-enunwa-jersey , then they should by all means go for it, as long as the pursuit doesn’t restrain them from going after priority targets at positions of greater need.Let’s take a look at C.J. Mosley and Kwon Alexander.Name: C.J. MosleyBirthday/Age: June 19th, 1992 (age 27 on September 1st)Height/Weight: 6’2, 241FA type: UnrestrictedCollege: Alabama (drafted 17th overall by the Ravens in the first round of the 2014 draft)Team(s): Ravens (2014-18)Position/usage: 3-4 inside linebacker2018 stats: 15 games, 105 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 5 passes defended, two QB knockdowns, one interception, half sackPrevious salary: Ravens accepted fifth year option. $8.7M cap hit in 2018Spotrac Market Value: $9.7M/year (would currently be 6th highest among inside linebackers)Jets connections: Alabama teammate of James Carpenter (impending free agent)Measurables (via mockdraftable.com):Mosley is a four-time Pro Bowler for the Ravens. Since joining the team, he’s played in 80 of 83 possible games, usually playing 100% of the defensive snaps. He’s primarily been a top-notch run stopper, but I think he’s more solid than given credit for in coverage. He’s a notoriously crushing hitter and a quality big play producer.Name: Kwon AlexanderBirthday/Age: August 3rd, 1994 (age 25 on September 1st)Height/Weight: 6’1, 227FA type: UnrestrictedCollege: LSU (drafted 124th overall by the Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2015 draft)Team(s): Buccaneers (2015-18)Position/usage: 4-3 outside linebacker2018 stats: 6 games, 45 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, two passes defended, two QB knockdowns, two fumbles forced Trenton Cannon Jersey , one sackPrevious salary: Signed a 4 year, $2,758,322 rookie contract. $2.0M cap hit in 2018Spotrac Market Value: $10.2M/year (would currently be 4th highest among inside linebackers)Jets connections: LSU teammate of Jamal Adams and Rashard RobinsonMeasurables (via mockdraftable.com):Alexander has had trouble staying on the field in Tampa Bay. He suffered a torn ACL six games into 2018, after missing four games each in two of his first three seasons.Only 25 years old this August (just two months younger than Lee), Alexander has primarily been a 4-3 outside linebacker for the Buccaneers, but I think he could project well into the role Lee has been playing for the Jets. I could see Alexander matching or even beating Lee in coverage, while representing an upgrade in run defense. Alexander is similarly athletic and smallish for the position. He’s been solid in coverage for the Buccaneers and a very high level playmaker.Speaking of playmaking, this is the primary reason I think the Jets should at least consider the idea of trying to upgrade off of their current duo. Williamson and Lee both can do a few things pretty well, but one thing that neither has proven able to do at a high level is make big plays. It’s really something that the Jets defense as a whole has struggled to do for a while, though some steps forward were taken in 2018. Conversely, it’s something that Alexander and Mosley have done exceptionally well.In the chart below, I compared the amount of “splash plays” (interceptions, passes defended, fumbles forced, fumbles recovered, sacks, and tackles for loss) each of these have players averaged per game in their careers, projected over a sixteen game span.Alexander and Mosley blow the Jets duo out of the water. Here’s a more detailed breakdown of how those numbers were compiled. Here are a couple of interesting bits I found. Since 2015, Alexander has collected eight tackles for loss in the passing game (T-7th in the league). Mosley has seven (T-16th).The Jets duo has combined for only four Womens Jordan Jenkins Jersey , with Lee notching three, and Williamson, one.Let’s look at third down stops since 2015 - tackles short of the sticks, sacks, pass deflections, and interceptions on third down. Mosley has collected 43.5 (11.4 per sixteen), Alexander, 38 (13.2). In comparison, the league leader in total third down stops since 2015, Alexander’s Tampa Bay teammate Lavonte David, has averaged 14.8 third stops per sixteen games, with 54.5 in total over the past four seasons. Alexander’s average is equal to Luke Kuechly’s.The Jets duo? Williamson has 26 (6.6 per sixteen), Lee, 18 (7.2).What do you think? Should the Jets make a play at inside linebacker?

coach and disappointing first overall pick to the Super Bowl has been awesome to watch. Featuring Todd Gurley and an offensive system that allows Goff to make reads quickly and decisively Jarrett Stidham Jersey Boys , has led to one of the best offenses in football in 2018. While the Patriots’ defense has been relatively successful in the playoffs, largely because of the pass rush, the Rams feature a balanced offense that’s ready to pounce on every mistake. What can we learn from the last matchup?Like I highlighted in my offensive preview, the last time the Patriots played the Rams was in 2016, Goff’s rookie year and the last game coached by Jeff Fisher. Goff was terrible his rookie year by no fault of his own. Similar to Josh Rosen this year in Arizona, Goff was not put in the right position to succeed. Todd Gurley, Goff, and right tackle Rob Havenstein are the lone offensive starters that remain on the Super Bowl roster.Plan for 11 formation and the no-huddleThe Rams offense, led by wunderkind/prodigy/mythical god Sean McVay have streamlined their offense into a well-oiled machine. Unlike what you see out of the Patriots and other teams, the Rams aren’t very flexible or creative with their offensive personnel. They line up in 11 personnel (3 wide receivers, 1 running back, 1 tight end) on an overwhelming percentage of their snaps. These numbers might even undersell the use of 11 personnel. If you confine the parameters to offensive snaps when the game was within 14 points, the Rams’ utilization of 11 personnel jumped to 93%. And when they ran their no huddle offense Infant Jarrett Stidham Jersey , something they utilized 12% of snaps, second most in the NFL, they were in 11 personnel 100% of the time. Instead of through personnel, the Rams scheme mismatches and opens receivers through pre-snap reads and through motions and play-action. They are ahead of the curve in their propensity for running the ball against lighter boxes with 77% of their runs coming out of an 11 formation. Los Angeles’ passing game took a hit when Cooper Kupp, it starting slot wide receiver, was lost for the season and replaced with Josh Reynolds, but the team has still been able to move the football. The Patriots have struggled a bit when facing the run with a lighter box and did not face a team that ran no-huddle this year outside of the two-minute drill. The play of Kyle Van Noy and Dont’a Hightower will be crucial to the success of the overall defense on Sunday. The duo is coming off its best play of the season in wins over the Chargers and Chiefs.Disguise defenses against Goff Did you know that Julian Edelman was a college quarterback? Did you know Chris Hogan played lacrosse at Penn State? Did you know that Sean McVay talks to Jared Goff and tells him pre-snap reads before the play clock dips under 15? All of these narratives have been run into the ground but only the third will be relevant on Sunday. The Patriots are one of the few teams in the NFL that are truly matchup oriented on both sides of the ball. They are amoebas, melding to whatever game plan they feel is the best. While Jared Goff has taken major positive strides in his play over the last couple years, he still remains an inexperienced quarterback that relies a lot on McVay and the system. The Patriots’ defense is just the kind of defense that could give Goff fits. In a Super Bowl that’s looking more and more like a home game for the Patriots, the young passer could struggle to communicate like he did in New Orleans for most of the first half. Expect a heavy dose of funky defensive packages including disguised pressures, overload blitzes, robber coverage and zone blitzes. The Rams’ offensive line is better than both AFC West teams the Patriots dominated on the way to Atlanta, but the Patriots should still be able to generate pressure with four. Stop the runThe whole “run the ball and stop the run in the playoffs” old school narrative has been almost decisively disproved in modern football by the analytics nerds Jarrett Stidham Jersey Draft , but against this Rams offense the adage still remains true. If the Patriots can make the Rams one dimensional on offense, their scheme collapses. In Todd Gurley and C.J. Anderson, the Rams have one of the most dynamic duos out of the backfield. You’ll never see both of them on the field together — the Rams didn’t have a single offensive snap in 2018 with multiple backs on the field — but they compliment each other perfectly. In many ways they are similar to the Dion Lewis/LeGarrette Blount backfield that the Patriots featured for a few years, with Gurley being a true three-down back that’s always a big-play threat and Anderson being that pudgy big back that can wear down tired defenses in the fourth quarter and in short yardage situations. If the Patriots are able to stop the run, then the Rams’ dangerous play-action passing game loses its virulence. The Rams utilized play action on a league high 34% of their offensive snaps, averaging 9.0 yards per play, two full yards per play more than their offensive plays without play-action. When the Rams lose their ability to use play action, more and more of the burden of the offense shifts from the running backs and Sean McVay to the arm of Jared Goff. It’s nothing personal against Jared Goff, who I think will challenge Patrick Mahomes for best new-age quarterback in his prime. But at this point in his career, that shift in responsibility is an advantage for the Patriots because quite simply, Goff can’t win games by himself yet.Should the Patriots continue to play aggressive man defense? It’s no secret that the Patriots are preparing for an offensive skill group of Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods, Josh Reynolds Jarrett Stidham NFL Jersey , Tyler Higbee/Gerald Everrett, and Todd Gurley/C.J. Anderson. They can expect that five on over 90% of snaps, and as a result, they won’t need to do much substituting in the secondary. Against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Patriots deployed their four cornerback dime package with Jonathan Jones over Duron Harmon because they treated Travis Kelce like a big wide receiver. With Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett, both versatile tight ends that can block, I would expect Harmon to slide back into his natural role as deep safety. The Patriots have had a lot of success with press-man coverage, ramping up their already league-high usage in the playoffs. But the Rams often times used condensed formations that prevents jams and allows free-releases from their wide receivers. When the Rams line up in stacks and bunches, they’ll get free releases. And the Rams use all sorts of methods to ensure that they have always have a safety valve available. For this reason I can see the Patriots utilizing a lot more zone. Against elite veteran quarterbacks that can pick apart holes in a zone it’s a problematic strategy, but I’m not convinced that Goff can do that. And there are plenty of ways for the Patriots to be able to scheme away from a vanilla zone through zone blitzes and other disguised pressures. When the Patriots do play man, I expect them to put Stephon Gilmore on Robert Woods, J.C. Jackson on Josh Reynolds and Jason McCourty with help on Brandin Cooks. Like I mentioned before, this group takes a huge hit without Cooper Kupp Jarrett Stidham NFL Draft , but these three can all get open through scheme or talent. Sean McVay’s path to elite NFL head coach over the last few years is remarkable. He has his system: lots of plays from under center, lots of play action, lots of no-huddle and almost all from 11 personnel. And so far it has worked, vaulting a third year quarterback and an offense without any elite pass catchers to the second best team by offensive DVOA. For me, this matchup will come down to the trenches. The Rams’ offensive line is fantastic, led by the ageless Andrew Whitworth at left tackle. But if Goff feels pressure, he loses most of his effectiveness, going from a 72.1% completion percentage and 9.1 yards per attempt when unpressured to a 43.4% completion percentage, 6.0 yards per attempt and more interceptions than touchdowns when under duress. In my opinion, the Patriots and their rejuvenated pass rush will get home just enough to slow down the Rams offense. Final prediction: Patriots 34 Rams 30 The San Francisco 49ers gave away everything but the game.Jimmy Garoppolo threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Dante Pettis with 1:15 remaining and the 49ers overcame five turnovers to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-20 on Sunday for their first 3-0 start in 21 years."It's never perfect," cornerback Richard Sherman said. "We didn't play perfect today but our record is perfect."The Niners gave the ball away four times in the first half and then lost a fumble again in the fourth quarter, but still managed to pull out the victory and spoil Mason Rudolph's first career start in place of the injured Ben Roethlisberger for the Steelers (0-3).A team that won just 10 games combined in coach Kyle Shanahan's first two seasons heads into a week off in good shape after surviving the home opener."It's a good start," Garoppolo said. "There's a lot of football left. Three wins won't get you anything in this league."Rudolph threw two long touchdown passes in the second half Jarrett Stidham Buffalo Bills Jersey , connecting on a 76-yarder to JuJu Smith-Schuster and a 39-yarder to Diontae Johnson that gave the Steelers a 20-17 lead in the fourth quarter. The Niners answered the first strike with a 75-yard touchdown drive capped by a 4-yard run by Jeff Wilson Jr. and appeared poised to do the same when they drove inside the 10 following the second score. But on third down from the 7, a shotgun snap hit receiver Richie James Jr. as he went in motion and T.J. Watt recovered the fumble for Pittsburgh on San Francisco's third red-zone turnover of the game. The Steelers then gave it right back when James Conner was stripped by Arik Armstead and DeForest Buckner recovered at the 24. After a third-down holding penalty on Mark Barron extended the drive, Garoppolo found Pettis for the go-ahead score.Pettis had caught just four passes for 22 yards this season before the TD grab, but made the biggest play yet for San Francisco."There obviously have been a lot of ups and downs," he said. "You're not just going to be good every single day. Now that I know what it's like to go through that, I know I can do this. I know I'm here for a reason."Pittsburgh was unable to generate a first down on the ensuing drive with Rudolph taking a sack on third down and throwing an incompletion on fourth to send the Steelers to their second 0-3 start since 2000."We get ready for next week," coach Mike Tomlin said. "It's as simple as that. That's life in the National Football League. It'd be the same had we won. We're not into the keep it together discussions. That's not how we're built."Garoppolo finished 22 for 32 for 277 yards. He threw two interceptions on the first three drives on passes that hit his receivers' hands and also lost a fumble on a bad snap from center by Weston Richburg with the Niners inside the Pittsburgh 10.Rudolph finished 14 for 27 for 174 yards, throwing an interception to K'Waun Williams on the opening drive of the second half to set up Wilson's first touchdown.INJURIESSteelers: TE Vance McDonald left the game in the first half with a shoulder injury.49ers: CB Ahkello Witherspoon left in the second half with a foot injury that he doesn't believe is serious.IMPRESSIVE DEBUTSteelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick made a big impact in his first game since being acquired from Miami this past week in a deal that sent a first-round pick to the Dolphins. He intercepted a pass in the first quarter and then forced a fumble by Raheem Mostert in the red zone in the second quarter that Devin Bush recovered. He became the first Steelers player with an interception and forced fumble in the opening half since James Harrison did it against the Chargers on Nov. 16, 2008.ROUGH DEBUTCornerback Jason Verrett made his debut for the 49ers and was picked on after Witherspoon left with the injury. evenly split on whether Odell Beckham Jr. was right to speak out the way he did in his recent ESPN interview with Josina Anderson. In our ‘Fanpulse’ poll this week Deandre Baker NFL Jersey , 52 percent of respondents said that Beckham was wrong to speak out. That means 48 percent thought he was right.Patricia Traina has offered her perspective. I have offered mine. The poll results show us, quite simply, that Beckham’s words have divided the fan base pretty much down the middle. Here are the perspectives of a couple of former Giants greats. On this week’s episode of “Inside The NFL” on Showtime, former Giants quarterback and now long-time NFL analyst Phil Simms said he believed Beckham’s comments will “galvanize” the Giants.Hall of Famer Michael Strahan did a conference call with Giants media on Wednesday. Here is his take:Sign up to take part in our weekly FanPulse surveys. It’s been awhile since the NFL flexed a game to Sunday night. The Bengals vs. Chiefs is a worthy choice. No games were moved from day to night last season, except for the final weekend, when all games are scheduled for the afternoon until the league and NBC figure out what is most attractive for prime time. In 2016, there were three flexed games, including Week 17. Not counting that, the last flex was Bucs at Cowboys on Dec. 18, 2016.So switching a pair of first-place teams made sense: Cincinnati (4-2) is at Kansas City (5-1).Some of the juicy plot lines involve offense, hardly a surprise in this year of points, points and more points. Kansas City has the league’s lowest-ranked defense and the Bengals rank 29th. Even worse, both are dealing with a slew of injuries on that side of the ball.So Patrick Mahomes throwing to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce and Kareem Hunt could fill the screen. So might Andy Dalton connecting with A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd.“Any time you want to be one of the great ones on the defense or you want your defense to have a statement-type game, you have to do it against the best offenses in the league,” Cincinnati defensive end Carlos Dunlap said. “And right now, they’re putting up those points like they’re one of the best offenses in the league. So you’ve got to go out there and put it on ’em.”There are some caveats to this matchup, however.Although the Bengals have won four straight in the series dating to Oct. 14, 2007, they are 3-15 on Sunday nights, losing eight straight. The Chiefs are 7-3 in games on Sunday nights. The weekend began with Denver’s 45-10 victory at Arizona on Thursday nightEmmanuel Sanders threw and caught touchdown passes Deandre Baker NFL Draft , Denver returned two interceptions for first-quarter touchdowns and the Broncos snapped a four-game losing streak.Todd Davis returned rookie Josh Rosen’s deflected pass for a touchdown on the second play of the game and Chris Harris Jr. took another back 53 yards for a score with 2:02 left in the quarter as the Broncos (3-4) opened a 21-3 lead. Rosen threw three interceptions and fumbled the ball away twice on a rough night that began badly for him and never got better. The Cardinals (1-6), down 35-3 at the half, fell to 0-4 at home for the first time since 1979.Off this week are Seattle (3-3), Green Bay (3-2-1), Oakland (1-5) and Pittsburgh (3-2-1).New England (4-2) at Chicago (3-2)Seems like every week, the Patriots’ opponent is battered by injuries to key players. No one is more key in Chicago than edge rusher Khalil Mack, who is battling an ankle problem.Just what Tom Brady needs against one of the five teams he’s never lost to. Brady is 4-0 against the Bears; the others are Atlanta (5-0), Dallas (4-0), Minnesota (4-0) and Tampa Bay (4-0).While the Bears should be able to move the ball on New England, they’ll likely need lots of points for a chance in this one.New Orleans (4-1) at Baltimore (4-2)Just like Patriots-Bears, this is one terrific offense against defense matchup. New Orleans ranks third in total offense and Baltimore is first on defense.Led by Drew Brees, who set the yards passing career mark in a rout of the Redskins before their bye the Saints have won four in a row. Nobody is more balanced with the ball now that RB Mark Ingram is back from suspension to team with dynamic Alvin Kamara. Brees, who is 0-4 vs. the Ravens, this year has a 78 percent completion rate for 1,658 yards with 11 touchdowns and no interceptions. The Ravens had 11 sacks last week against Tennessee and a league-most 26 overall. They are allowing an NFL-low 12.8 points per game and the fewest yards per game (270.8). Baltimore has four of the NFL’s past 14 shutouts since the start of the 2017 season.Carolina (3-2) at Philadelphia (3-3)An intriguing matchup of a solid running team in Carolina, led by Christian McCaffrey and QB Cam Newton, facing the second-stingiest rushing defense in a place where the Eagles are 17-4 under Doug Pederson. As for the air game, which seemingly everyone needs to succeed these days, Carolina is far too inconsistent.Meanwhile, Carson Wentz has thrown at least one TD in his past 19 games played Deandre Baker Buffalo Bills Jersey , the longest streak in franchise history and second-longest active streak behind Andrew Luck (28). Wentz has thrown 133 consecutive passes without a pick. His longest streak is 135 passes.Tennessee (3-3) vs. Los Angeles Chargers (4-2) at LondonThe Titans were humiliated at home by Baltimore and should welcome the long trip overseas. Then again, they have lost 10 of the past 11 to the Chargers and bring a sputtering offense into Wembley.Although Tennessee has a solid D, it faces an in-synch offense. The Chargers are 13-5 since starting last season 0-4 and QB Philip Rivers leads the AFC and ranks second in the NFL with a 115.1 passer rating. He has 13 TD passes and four interceptions in seven games vs. the Titans.Houston (3-3) at Jacksonville (3-3)The other AFC South leaders. After beginning the season with three defeats, the Texans have turned it around, albeit all their wins have been tight affairs, two in overtime.Defensive end J.J. Watt , perhaps the NFL’s best player when healthy, is back in form after missing most of the 2016 and ’17 seasons with injuries. Watt has seven sacks and three forced fumbles in the past four games. The Jaguars have a solid defense, too, particularly against the pass, where they ranked first in yards surrendered. But Jacksonville was outscored 70-21 in consecutive road losses, forcing coach Doug Marrone to return to training camp practices this week to emphasize fundamental football.Dallas (3-3) at Washington (3-2)Among pro sports’ most intense rivalries, this will be a physical and possibly low-scoring affair given the strength of both defenses and imbalance of the offenses.Dallas, winless on the road, will try to run with Ezekiel Elliott, second in rushing yards with 586 and third in yards from scrimmage with 752. Washington will counter with Adrian Peterson, who averaged 108.5 yards rushing in the past two home games.Minnesota (3-2-1) at New York Jets (3-3)The Vikings have never won at the Jets, going 0-5. To break that slump, the main weapon could be WR Adam Thielen. He had 11 catches for 123 yards last week, joining Houston’s Charley Hennigan (1961) as the only players in NFL history with 100 or more yards in each of his team’s first six games to begin a season. Thielen leads the NFL with 58 catches Infant Daniel Jones Jersey , the most by a player in the first six games in league history, and 712 yards receiving.Guess what: New York’s secondary is banged-up and porous. The Jets are seeking their first three-game winning streak since Weeks 3-5 of 2017.Los Angeles Rams (6-0) at San Francisco (1-5)Keeping the NFL’s only perfect record shouldn’t be too challenging for LA, which has the most dangerous offense around. RB Todd Gurley ran for a career-high 208 yards and two TDs last week. The Rams are averaging 32.7 points per game despite scoring TDs on only 56.7 percent of red-zone trips. Los Angeles also leads the NFL with 7.64 yards per play on first down.San Francisco blew a game at Green Bay last week and Niners QB C.J. Beathard is tied for the NFL worst with seven turnovers in the past three weeks since Jimmy Garoppolo tore up his knee. The Niners have an NFL-worst minus-11 turnover margin.New York Giants (1-5) at Atlanta (2-4), Monday nightMore injuries plagued the Falcons, who placed top running back Devonta Freeman on IR. No team has been more damaged by injuries in 2018, most of them coming on defense. That means Atlanta needs shootouts to have a chance most weeks, and QB Matt Ryan leads the NFL with 1,432 yards passing and a 128.2 rating since Week 3.He is tied for first with 12 TD passes in that span.New York’s D is vulnerable and the offense is enigmatic despite the presence of sensational rookie RB Saquon Barkley, and firebrand wideout Odell Beckham Jr. The O-line should be dubbed the “Awful-Line.”Detroit (2-3) at Miami (4-2)The Lions are feeling upbeat following a victory over Green Bay and a week off, but that special feeling could turn sour because of their special teams.Lions coverage units rank last on punts and sixth worst on kickoffs. The Dolphins rank second in kickoff return average and third in punt return average.Miami is no powerhouse, though. The Dolphins are tied for the AFC East lead even though they’ve been outgained by 398 yards.Cleveland (2-3-1) at Tampa Bay (2-3)The Dawg Pound was silenced in Cleveland when the Chargers pounded the Browns last week. Tampa will be hitting the airwaves, trying to find mismatches for WRs DeSean Jackson and Mike Evans. It won’t hurt the Bucs that Browns Pro Bowl MLB Joe Schobert is out with a hamstring injury. This will be his first game missed — at any level — due to injury. The Browns do lead the NFL with 16 takeaways, three more than all last season. Tampa has 11 giveaways.Buffalo (2-4) at Indianapolis (1-5)Remember Derek Anderson, most lately the backup to Newton in Carolina. He has surfaced as the new starter in Buffalo with rookie Josh Allen hurting and Nathan Peterman an interception machine. On the positive side, the Bills‘ defense is tied for the league lead with seven fumble recoveries. The Colts will try for the fifth time to win game No. 300 since moving to Indy in 1984. And placekicker Adam Vinatieri needs 10 points to break Morten Andersen’s scoring record (2,544 points).

EDTShareTweetShareShareBuffalo Bills hosting G/T Nate Davis on pre-draft visitThe Buffalo Bills will use one of their 30 visits leading up to the 2019 NFL Draft to meet with University of North Carolina Charlotte guard/tackle Nate Davis. The visit was reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Davis showed well during the 2019 Senior Bowl. He earned an invitation following a 2018 season where he garnered second-team all-Conference USA honors at right tackle, despite a four-game suspension for undisclosed violations. The success at right tackle came after he spent his first three seasons in Charlotte as a right guard, starting 30 of a possible 31 games. A four-year starter, Davis anchored an offensive line that ranked fourth in Conference USA in rushing yards per game in league games (163 yards/game) last fall. Davis, a 6’3”, 311-lb offensive lineman who made 37 starts at Charlotte, is projected by NFLDraftScout.com as the eighth-ranked guard in the draft class. The site projects him as a fourth- or fifth-round selection. WalterFootball.com has Davis as the seventh-ranked offensive guard, projecting him to go between the third and fifth rounds. CBSsports.com has Davis as the 20th-ranked offensive lineman and 120th overall, roughly equal to a fourth-round draft pick. According to NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein, Davis “carries good power and outstanding foot quickness on a stout frame and has proven to be consistent and effective in a variety of blocking schemes. His footwork and body control help him square his targets into his power zone Dawson Knox Buffalo Bills Jersey , but a lack of arm length creates some inconsistencies in sustaining blocks. He has some flaws, but there doesn’t appear to be glaring holes to overcome his areas of strength and become a starting guard early in his career.” The Bills aren’t done shopping. We take a look at the team’s newest defensive end"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections NewsNotesOpinionAnalysisDiscussionPodcastNFL DraftSalary CapNFL Free AgencyAnalysisNotesAll-22 analysis: Buffalo Bills free-agent acquisition, defensive end Eli HaroldNew,21commentsThe Bills aren’t done shopping. We take a look at the team’s newest defensive endEDTShareTweetShareShareAll-22 analysis: Buffalo Bills free-agent acquisition, defensive end Eli HaroldI’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “There’s no rest for the wicked or the Buffalo Bills once free agency starts.” This year that old gem has certainly been accurate. This time, the Bills are working to shore up their line by signing defensive end Eli Harold. Formerly with the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions, Harold has four years of NFL experience at outside linebacker. Don’t let the position fool you, with the systems these teams used Harold was mainly performing the role of an end in Buffalo’s defense. Let’s take a look. Play 1Arguably, this should be the finale. Any time an outside linebacker/defensive end has two offensive lineman wedging him in it should be an easy victory for the offensive players. Now being fair to the 49ers, neither lineman initiated contact perfectly. Still, this is somewhat insane for Eli Harold to just drive through them. Harold’s strength and tenacity are off the charts for this play. Play 2If you look long enough Color Rush Dawson Knox Jersey , you’ll find a “wow” play for any player in the NFL. So is Harold consistently strong? Well he did this to Joe Staley all day long. Making this all the more incredible is that Harold is undersized for Buffalo’s defense. Per Pro Football Reference, at 243 lbs he’s about a dozen pounds lighter than Jerry Hughes. It’s closer to 20 compared to Eddie Yarbrough and Trent Murphy. And Shaq Lawson is 24 lbs heavier than Harold. The low point of attack helps, but the power still stands out. Play 3Harold attempts a couple techniques that aren’t “running through guys” on this play with mixed results. The initial quick step to the right shows some promise, but the cut-back and swim move are lacking. What appears to have gone awry is that Harold loses momentum and doesn’t drive into Staley. A swim move is intended to help skirt around an opponent in close quarters. The gap left by Harold allows Staley to keep his upper body and arms clean to follow up after the move. Play 4Harold suffered injuries to his shoulder and hip during the year. Both joints are crucial for generating power. The game against San Francisco came before both injuries. This game against the Los Angeles Rams came after Harold was put back into the lineup following the second injury. It did appear that injuries impacted his game to some degree, as Harold wasn’t winning his shoving contests as often as he did early in the season. As we see here, though, he still had his moments. Play 5We see a similar set of circumstances to Eli Harold’s attempt in Play 3. As above, the actual use of hands seems fine, but the gap Harold leaves between himself and the offensive linemen renders the hand fighting ineffective. Play 6Regular readers have probably seen my assertion that it’s fine for offensive lineman to “lose slowly.” Despite Harold’s strength most offensive linemen are still able to hold him off long enough to be called a “slow loss.” Sometimes this happens though. Harold had four sacks last year on only 183 snaps. That works out to about one every 46 snaps. This was his best year by volume and by far his best year for efficiency. Play 7In the games reviewed, Detroit seemed to want to avoid having Eli Harold in coverage. The 49ers weren’t so shy and asked him to work on shorter/medium routes like we see here. This is a fairly good representation of how it went on average. The difference in usage likely helps explain the sack-efficiency difference to some degree, but more than likely Harold will not be able to continue at a pace of one sack every 46 snaps. Play 8Eli Harold places his hand to the side of his opponent’s shoulder and tries to shove him aside. When that doesn’t work, some hand-fighting takes place. It’s not until Harold drives forward that he has any progress. Similar to the pair of plays above Youth Dawson Knox Jersey , by not leaning in to use the hand techniques the offensive lineman can hold their ground and deal with the hands. Play 9Here’s Eli Harold sacking Tom Brady. SummaryEli Harold has a high ceiling athletically, especially when it comes to strength. Despite his diminutive weight, a healthy Harold routinely shoves back offensive lineman. Harold still seems to be working on hand fighting and more finesse-based approaches, which would help his game-play drastically. With Lawson, Murphy, Yarbrough, and Hughes all ahead of Harold on the depth chart it will be an uphill battle for him to make an impression. On the other hand, Harold can line up on either side of the formation, adding value. Sean McDermott may also see Harold as part of a “big nickel” defense.

BEREA Larry Ogunjobi Color Rush Jersey , Ohio (AP) — Duke Johnson wore a backpack on Monday that seemed symbolic. The Browns finally asked him to carry a larger load.Of the handful of positives to emerge from Sunday’s 37-21 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, capping another stormy week of change and uncertainty in Cleveland, Johnson’s two-touchdown performance was at the top of the list. After being overlooked — some would argue misused — for much of the season, Johnson was the primary focus of the Browns’ offensive game plan. He finished with nine catches for 78 yards, added one rush for eight and drew extra attention from Kansas City’s defense, which allowed his teammates to make plays.Johnson was hesitant to say it, but Cleveland’s change at offensive coordinator, with running backs coach Freddie Kitchens replacing the fired Todd Haley, made a difference.“Um,” Johnson said sheepishly when asked if the Kitchens-for-Haley swap was the reason for his rise in production. “I guess you could look at it that way. Again, it’s the same plays we’ve been calling, the same offense. There’s just certain things that coach Kitchens likes better than coach Haley did.”Before Sunday, Johnson’s season-high was four catches and there were times when he wasn’t on the field at all. What made that even more perplexing was that Johnson led the Browns (2-6-1) with 74 catches for 693 yards last season and developed into one of the NFL’s best dual-threat backs. But with Haley concerned about getting touches for running backs Nick Chubb and Carlos Hyde, who was recently traded to Jacksonville, Johnson became the odd-man out.A proven playmaker not getting a chance to make plays.Johnson was targeted by rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield against the Chiefs, and he hopes to get even more opportunities as the season progresses.“I think it is possible,” Johnson said. “Just going out there and showing what I’m capable of doing, especially showing the reason why I’m here. It was a great showing for myself, but not so much for the team and we’re about team here. We should have gotten the win http://www.brownsfanshop.com/Austin-Seibert-Jersey , that’s most important.”Following his first game since being chosen Hue Jackson’s interim replacement, defensive coordinator/head coach Gregg Williams said Johnson’s breakout was caused by a combination of things, including Kitchens and Mayfield working together for the first time.“Freddie did a good job and Baker, too,” Williams said. “Baker’s understanding of that from the read process — when a play is called as a quarterback, you don’t automatically know it is going to go to that person. There is a read definition that takes you to that person, but from Baker and Freddie, they did a good job with that.“It was good to see that with Duke. Just like what we have talked about with other people, I think he can do more and he will. He had a good fire about him, and he will continue to improve too. We need him to improve.”Getting Johnson more involved didn’t result in a win for the Browns, but it was a small step toward improvement.Cleveland matched a season-low with only four penalties, and Williams, who decided early on he was going to be aggressive, liked that his offense converted three times on fourth down. The Browns couldn’t keep up with Kansas City’s high-speed, high-scoring offense, but Johnson was impressed with the team’s character in the aftermath of Jackson and Haley’s firings.“I never saw them blink,” he said. “One, two, scores down or whatever Sheldrick Redwine Jersey , we were always in a position to continue to fight. I never saw them blink. That is good. That is what we are supposed to do as professionals. Young team, old team, I do not care — that was good. There was a lot of positive that way. Defensively, we have to play better.”Another bright spot was left tackle Greg Robinson. The 2014 No. 2 overall pick made his first start for Cleveland filling in for Desmond Harrison, who was out with an unspecified illness. Robinson not only protected Mayfield’s blind side, but handled all his other duties.“He played well, didn’t he?” said Williams, who was on the Rams’ staff when they selected Williams. “I’ve seen him develop as a young guy. I’ve seen him have his battles, ups and downs, and it’s been good.”Following the game, Mayfield singled out Robinson, who was grateful for the QB’s praise.“It felt good to just get out there with the boys, taking it to the game field rather than just practicing,” said Robinson, signed by the Browns in June. “It was encouraging and I’m really happy that he spoke well about me.”NOTES: Williams did not have updates on rookie CB Denzel Ward (hip), CB E.J. Gaines (concussion) or LB Christian Kirksey (hamstring), all injured Sunday. Williams reiterated his decision to sit DB Damarious Randall (groin) was so he can be healthy for multiple games and not just one. CLEVELAND (AP) — One week into their expansive coaching search, the Browns are huddling. After conducting interviews with seven candidates in seven days, general manager John Dorsey and members of the team’s search committee http://www.brownsfanshop.com/Sione-Takitaki-Jersey , which includes owner Jimmy Haslam, were not expected to meet with anyone on Tuesday and could be evaluating their next move. It’s possible they’ve already found Cleveland’s ninth coach since 1999 or Dorsey and Co. could be waiting to speak with assistants on teams still in the playoffs. To this point, the Browns have met with interim coach Gregg Williams, offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens, former Indianapolis and Detroit coach Jim Caldwell, Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski, Saints tight ends coach Dan Campbell, Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores and Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.Kitchens has emerged as a favorite along with Stefanski, who according to several reports is returning to the Browns’ facility in Berea, Ohio, for a second interview. The Browns are not commenting on any interviews until they are completed.Dorsey had been expected to meet with former Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy, but nothing has been scheduled. Dorsey and McCarthy spent seven years together working with the Packers, and by all accounts, the two men have a solid relationship.McCarthy’s pedigree as a Super Bowl champion and his years working with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers make him appealing. But he’s also interviewed with the Jets and could land in New York. One coach no longer in the mix is New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who said Tuesday “the book is closed” on him interviewing for head coaching jobs.Dorsey has tightly guarded his plans during the search, much the way he did leading into the NFL draft when he stunned experts by selecting quarterback Baker Mayfield with the No. 1 overall pick.Obviously, that pick proved fruitful and Browns fans are trusting Dorsey to choose the right coach to pair with Mayfield. At this point, Kitchens, who revamped the team’s offense in the season’s second half Greedy Williams Jersey , appears to be the front-runner.He’s the people’s choice and players love him.The 44-year-old Kitchens is the most recent candidate to meet with the Browns, formally interviewing with Dorsey and the committee members on Monday. He got a chance to present his long-term vision for what the Browns could become under his guidance. He’s already shown them what he can do in eight games.Once Kitchens took over Cleveland’s offense on Oct. 29, Mayfield took off. He threw 19 of his 27 touchdown passes — a league rookie record — in the final eight games and Mayfield completed 68 percent of his passes. Also, Kitchens designed play calls that played to Mayfield’s strengths, allowing the mobile QB to get out of the pocket to make plays and avoid pass rushers.Mayfield was sacked 20 times under coordinator Todd Haley, and just five with Kitchens in charge.Kitchens and Mayfield also formed a close bond, something none of the other candidates could claim when they sat in front of Dorsey and Haslam. That relationship could seal the deal for the Browns as they envision Mayfield being the franchise’s face behind the facemask for the next decade. If Kitchens is hired, it’s a stunning ascension for the former Alabama quarterback, who began the season as Cleveland’s running backs coach following 11 seasons with Arizona. Kitchens endeared himself to his players with a no-nonsense approach, easygoing style and willingness to include them in decisions. While building game plans, he empowered his players by asking them what plays they were most comfortable running. And Mayfield wasn’t the only player who developed under Kitchens as left tackle Greg Robinson and wide receiver Breshad Perriman, cast-offs at recent stops, made significant contributions. The Browns think so much of Kitchens that they blocked other teams from interviewing him.Kitchens began his coaching career in 1999 at tiny Glenville State in West Virginia and was on three other campuses before jumping to the NFL as Dallas’ tight ends coach in 2006.He’s never taken his climb for granted.“I didn’t have a dad as a coach. I didn’t have a starting point in this league,” he said earlier this season. “I grew up the son of a tiremaker at Goodyear Tire and Rubber plant in Gadsden, Alabama. Benjamin E. Mays said those who start behind in the game of life must run faster to catch up, and I feel like I’ve been running fast my whole life.”

the offers he’s received as a free agent in early April and things have not changed much with May coming to an end.Boston was on SiriusXM NFL Radio and said that he believes his play warrants the same kind of contracts that players like Adrian Amos and Lamarcus Joyner received from the Packers and Raiders this offseason. It’s a similar spot to the one he was in last year before signing with the Cardinals in July and Boston said he’s going to wait for teams to “stop playing games” before signing anywhere this year.“I know I’m worth every dollar those guys are getting paid Josh Jones Color Rush Jersey ,” Boston said. “The stats say it, you can’t say it’s not, but, for me, it’s about being at peace with where I’m at. Even though the stats say I might be there, if they’re not paying me that then I will wait until it comes a time where I need to sign and they feel comfortable that I’m worth that.”Boston said he believes “eventually people are going to come around,” but he’s played on one-year contracts for the last two seasons so it’s hardly guaranteed that anyone will develop the appetite for a bigger deal. Super Bowl XXXII, that one game in Seattle (you know the one) or any loss to the Bears are easy examples. The entire 2017 and 2018 seasons also come to mind. But drilling down to specific plays is a little tougher. How do you determine which one had the most consequences? Which single moment truly made the difference? This is our small attempt to do just that. Here are three plays from recent Packers history we’d like to change.Evan “Tex” Western - Nick Collins’ neck injuryI’m sure plenty of people will think back to the 2014 NFC Championship Game or Super Bowl XXXII and find valid plays to change, but to me one specific moment provided a death blow to the Packers’ defense for nearly a decade. That moment came in week two of the 2011 season. The Packers were fresh off winning Super Bowl XLV behind a stifling defense and the culmination of Aaron Rodgers’ brilliance at quarterback. The 2010 team finished tenth in points scored and ninth in yards gained, but the defense was even better, ranking second in points and fifth in yardage against. One of the biggest reasons for that performance was safety Nick Collins, who made his third consecutive Pro Bowl that season and had a critical pick-six in the Super Bowl. But in week two of the 2011 season, Collins tried to make a tackle on Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart, but hit his head on Stewart’s leg. Collins remained down on the field, eventually being taken off on a stretcher. He never played another down in the NFL, forced to retire as a result of the neck injury suffered on that play. The 2011 season saw the Packers’ defense finish dead last in the NFL in total yards and passing yards allowed, and despite a 15-1 record and Aaron Rodges winning the MVP award, the Packers lost in their first playoff game.In the succeeding years, the Packers tried to replace Collins, but to no avail. His ability to line up the defense and make the calls on the field was missed greatly. Mid-round draft picks like Jerron McMillian and UDFAs M.D. Jennings couldn’t replace even a fraction of his production https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/David-Bakhtiari-Jersey , and even when GM Ted Thompson did try to fill the free safety spot with a high draft pick, 2014 first-rounder Ha Ha Clinton-Dix was underwhelming. Perhaps GM Brian Gutekunst has finally succeeded in finding the smart, playmaking replacement for Collins in first-rounder Darnell Savage, a player who profiles very similarly to Collins. But if Collins never suffered a career-ending injury in the first place, I’m confident that the Packers would have made at least another one or two Super Bowl appearances in the years since and that Collins would be under serious consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.Jon Meerdink - The most costly drop of Jordy Nelson’s careerTo say the 2014 Packers cruised through the latter half of their schedule is quite an understatement. After a tough outing in New Orleans, the Packers emerged from their bye week a renewed team, winning seven of their next eight games. Four of those seven wins were by double-digit margins, including back-to-back wins of thirty or more points. But the lone blemish on their second half schedule, a 21-13 loss to the Buffalo Bills, was tremendously costly. And had but one play been changed, the entire Packers’ season might have been different.Late in the third quarter, the Packers trailed the Bills 16-10. On a 2nd-and-6 play with just 31 seconds left in the quarter, Aaron Rodgers saw Jordy Nelson break free on a double move down the right side of the field and hit his favorite target in stride. But Nelson dropped it. Virtually all alone in the Bills secondary, Nelson had a clear path to the end zone and a late lead for the Packers. Instead, the Packers slogged on for ten more plays before Rodgers was picked off on a throw to Jarrett Boykin. On their ensuing drive, the Bills kicked a field goal, extending their ultimately insurmountable lead and completing what turned out to be a ten point swing. The drop was just a small part of an uncharacteristically quiet day for Nelson, who was in the midst of his only Pro Bowl season in Green Bay. Nelson managed just five catches for 55 yards on twelve targets that day, his third lowest yardage total of the season. He later struggled to explain the drop. “It’s one of those baffling things. I just short armed it for whatever reason,” he told WISN. “I watched it go right off my fingers.”To be fair Jason Spriggs Jersey , he wasn’t the only Packers receiver who struggled that day. The entire offense was bogged down by a bad case of the stone hands. But Nelson’s was perhaps the most crucial drop, given the high leverage situation in which it took place and the potential (even likely) outcome of the play had he managed to reel in that pass. Now, in most circumstances I think it’s borderline ridiculous to pin huge consequences on a single play. There are literally thousands of plays in a typical football season and it’s often far too simplistic to hold just one up as the reason later events turned out the way they did.But in this particular instance, I think it’s justified. The Packers ended up losing that tight game to the Bills, and as a result finished with a 12-4 record, equal with the Seattle Seahawks. By virtue of their better win position, though, the Seahawks were awarded the top seed in the NFC Playoffs, meaning that the 2014 NFC Championship game would ultimately be played in Seattle. One routine catch could have changed all that. And given that the Seahawks were just 5-3 away from home in 2014, it’s hard not to wonder if the outcome of that horrific game wouldn’t have been different as well.Peter Bukowski - Aaron Rodgers’ calf injury 2014 Pick a million plays from the ‘14 NFC Championship Game to go a different way, the Packers win and get a shot to beat a Patriots team they’d already handled earlier in the season (still Mike McCarthy’s pièce de résistance). But let’s back up for a minute. It was a calf injury suffered late in the season that, to my mind, altered the entire course of this season including and especially that Seahawks game. The original injury likely lead the the calf tear, which caused Rodgers to play essentially on one leg in Week 17 against Detroit. Though he sliced and diced the Cowboys defense, there may have been no controversy around the Dez catch had he been healthy for that game. And we’ve seen what a healthy Rodgers can do against the Seahawks since that game. They won at home in 2015 and 2016, including in ‘15 without Jordy Nelson, thanks in large part to Rodgers’ ability to extend plays and stress than vaunted Seattle zone. If he’s healthy for their tilt in Seattle AND the defense comes to play like it did (certainly no guarantee) they win that game without having to worry about Brandon Bostick or fake field goals.

Beginning the season 0-3, Houston edged the Colts 37-34 and haven’t lost a game since. “We are locked in on Houston, ready to go, Colts head coach Frank Reich said on Wednesday. “This is a hot team, we will be in a hostile environment against a team that’s playing very good football.” Houston will feature a fully healthy J.J. He’s definitely a force to be reckoned with.” Today’s game is a critical matchup because it could ultimately decide the fate of the AFC South. The Tennessee Titans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 30-9 on Thursday night https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Jack-Doyle-Jersey , and in order to clinch the division the Texans needed a Titans loss and a win against the Colts. The Texans will look to heavily pressure quarterback Andrew Luck and suppress the Colts’ run game, J.J. Watt and linebacker Jadaveon Clowney will lend a hand in that. The Colts have forced at least one turnover in every game this season and should work to slow down a high-powered Texans offense led by quarterback Desaun Watson and star receiver DeAndre Hopkins. The Texans have allowed the fourth most sacks and the third most quarterback hits this season, so the Colts’ pass rush will be key defensively. While the Colts are the underdog in this divisional matchup, if they are able to contain Watson in the pocket, force turnovers and play on the strengths of the defense, there is a chance a Colts win could disrupt the playoff chase in the entire division. “Houston presents a great challenge,” Luck said. “Division games on the road, huge challenge so very excited, very excited for this team.”

RENTON Steve Largent Color Rush Jersey , Wash. (AP)Shaquem Griffin had walked away from his cellphone, on his way to use the restroom, when it buzzed. His twin brother, Shaquill, recognized the 425 area code that flashed on the screen and started charging after his brother.”I think I was more scared of him tackling me in the bathroom and not knowing what was happening than anything,” Shaquem said. What already was the feel-good story of the NFL draft got an even better storybook ending on Saturday when the Central Florida star linebacker whose left hand was amputated when he was child was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round. The phone call from Seattle general manager John Schneider set off a wild celebration within the Griffin family , which had gathered at a hotel in the Dallas area after Shaquem spent the first two days at the draft in Arlington, Texas, waiting for a phone call that never came. It was the Seahawks – the team that showed the most interest in Griffin from the start – who gave Shaquem the chance at his professional aspirations and with it a chance to be reunited with his brother.Shaquill Patrick Kerney Color Rush Jersey , who was a third-round pick by the Seahawks in 2017, became a starter in his rookie season. The brothers played together throughout their youth and at UCF before Shaquill entered the NFL a year earlier.”I couldn’t ask for anything (else) in the world than the opportunity to be back with him,” Shaquem said.Added Shaquill: ”I was going to be happy no matter what team that gave him the opportunity. At the end of the day that’s all I wanted for him: for a team to give him a shot and give him an opportunity and take a chance on someone that is great.”For Seattle coach Pete Carroll what stuck out as the interview the Seahawks conducted with Griffin at the scouting combine.”He was just so expressive and so open to tell his story and tell what this opportunity meant to him in a way that moved us all,” Carroll said. ”Just like those of you that have watched him he’s an extraordinary young man. He has a lot of messaging that he’s going to stand strong with and we’re all going to grow from I think. And aside from that he’s a really good football player.”Griffin was the player everyone was hoping would get a shot in the NFL after being a star at UCF despite playing with just one hand. He was the American Athletic Conference defensive player of the year in 2016 and the MVP of UCF’s Peach Bowl victory against Auburn last season when the Knights went 13-0.A groundswell of support got him an invitation to the scouting combine in Indianapolis, where he stunned onlookers by bench-pressing 225 pounds a staggering 20 times with a prosthetic left hand and then covered the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds. The performance at the combine turned Shaquem into a star, but it didn’t guarantee a team would give him a shot.”It’s just so much. I’m extremely blessed,” Shaquem said. ”It definitely was a tough three days. A lot of anxiety these few days, but I am ready to get up there and go to work and start something great.”Shaquem’s position in the NFL is still to be determined. He was a force as an outside linebacker rushing off the edge at UCF, but at 6-foot and 227 pounds with blazing speed Germain Ifedi Color Rush Jersey , he could transition to being the bigger safety Carroll likes to have on his defense. Carroll said the intent is to start Griffin at weakside linebacker and let him use his speed in different areas on the field.Griffin’s college coach Scott Frost tweeted ”About time,” after the pick was made. Seattle general manager John Schneider said there was no extra pressure felt to draft Shaquem with his brother already on the roster.”I think the thing that stood out to me was somebody told me they had sat down with (Shaquem) for five minutes and they gained the same inspiration from him as they did the first time they were able to sit down with John Wooden,” Schneider said.Griffin was waiting patiently in the green room through the first two days of the draft. He chose to spend the last day with his family at a nearby hotel watching. He sat through the entire fourth round without getting a call, but three picks into the fifth round the Seahawks called.”It was up and down. The excitement, it’s crazy because you’re around so many great guys in that setting and you’re in the green room and you’re moving around and seeing how the anxiety is building up. Sometimes the pressure like that can break you and it is a lot of pressure,” Shaquem said. ”But I knew how it was going to go. I knew I wasn’t going to be a first-round pick or anything like that. It was me making sure I was enjoying the moment that I was here in Dallas.”— It’s Friday news dump time! At 6’3” and 235 lbs I highly doubt he’ll also be converting from TE to offensive lineman, although now I am legitimately intrigued at the possibility of a two-TE set consisting of Deane and Fant. We shared our very early draft crushes way back in January. But for every player we love Geronimo Allison Jersey , there’s another that terrifies us, someone we’d hate to see the Packers draft. Here is our list of those players. Who’s on yours?Matub - DK Metcalf - WR, MississippiI have actually seen multiple mocks from “trusted draft gurus” that put DK Metcalf in Green Bay at pick #12. That is such a monumentally bad idea that I can’t even begin to describe the welt on my forehead from facepalming so hard. In fact, that pick is what inspired this ENTIRE walkthrough topic.DK Metcalf is the personification of the James Cameron vehicle, Avatar. He’s all flash and no substance. He’s the kind of thing you watch on a 3D RealMotion 4K UHD TV and go “Ooooooo it’s so pretty!”, but when you really stop to think about it you question why you’re even doing this in the first place. It’s been said that Avatar is just Dances With Wolves with some good CGI.DK Metcalf is a freak athlete who can run 4 simple routes and wins by being bigger, faster, and stronger than the guy in front of him.Maybe I should change my answer to Dances With Janis.Evan “Tex” Western - Either first-round off-ball linebackerThis is as much about positional value as anything else, but I do not want to see either Devin (White or Bush) become the Packers’ selection at 12 overall. Although rangy coverage linebackers are all the rage right now, I personally still subscribe to the approach that this is a position that can be filled with solid players later on. Yes, Roquan Smith had a good rookie season in Chicago last year, but second-round pick Darius Leonard was the defensive rookie of the year.If I’m drafting in the top half of round one, I’d much rather have a starting-caliber offensive or defensive tackle or pass rusher than an off-ball linebacker. Plus, I’m still a believer in Oren Burks Aaron Jones Jersey , and I expect to see him take a significant step forward in 2019.Fundamentally, I think both White and Bush will be good NFL players. In a vacuum, I think I even prefer Bush over White. But I don’t think that either one is worthy of a top-15 pick. If the top options in the trenches are all gone, I’d much rather see the Packers trade back from 12 than take either of these players.Jon Meerdink - Parris Campbell - WR, Ohio StateAfter previously writing about how excited I was to watch Parris Campbell at the Combine, I must now add that the idea of drafting him early scares me. A 4.31 time in the 40-yard dash is blisteringly fast, but he was largely a gadget player in Columbus. And to be fair, he was an effective one! But I’m wary of a player whose scouting report quickly focuses on his special teams acumen as a way of offsetting any concerns about his potential as a first-round bust. Ohio State fans may always have Par(r)is, but I hope the Packers never do.Paul Noonan - Jachai Polite - EDGE, FloridaHe of the bizarre combine interviews and 1.77 RAShttps://relativeathleticscores.com/20...ft-class-ras/In addition to those red flags, he also has a spotty injury history, and he was once removed from the starting lineup at Florida because he “failed to meet the Gator standard,” which, let’s be honest Lane Taylor Jersey , can’t really be that high. Polite may be talented and come from a bigtime college program, but his utter failure during his athletic testing didn’t just call into question his athleticism, as that lack of preparation gives additional support to the notion that he has makeup issues. Maybe he’ll blow everyone away and those red flags won’t mean much, as was the case for JAmes’ Cameron’s Titanic, which was a allegedly a troubled production until it made a billion dollars and ran in theaters for a year. But I’m guessing Polite is more Waterworld, and less Titanic.Wait, that metaphor is super confusing. Shawn Wagner - Drew Lock - QB, MissouriI agree with all of the players listed above, so without being a copycat, I’m going to go with Drew Lock.I’m leery about all of the quarterbacks in this particular draft for various reasons, especially when rumors begin that Green Bay is interested. Lock’s build and arm strength are there for him to be a solid NFL quarterback, but we have seen many times that those traits are not all that is needed for the next level. Accuracy is integral to being a starting quarterback and Lock’s issues in this area cannot be overlooked. Neither can his issues against SEC opponents. Lock feasted on early-season matchups against smaller programs and that worry about production against the big boys lingers despite his years of experience under center at Missouri.I really don’t want to see Green Bay select a quarterback with any of their first three picks, and Lock would make me especially nervous this year. Here are three who have a good shot at getting a contract.CDTShareTweetShareShareThree tryout players who could make the Packers’ roster after rookie minicampJoe Camporeale-USA TODAY SportsRookie minicamp means very different things to players in different situations. For players who were selected in the NFL Draft, a roster spot is assured at least through training camp. These players will spend the next several days acclimating to the NFL and specifically to their new team’s way of doing business.A second group of players is made up of those who went undrafted but who agreed to contracts with their new teams. For these individuals Blake Martinez Jersey , the weekend is time to pass a physical and sign their contract, followed by a chance to make an early impression on the coaching staff and stake a claim at a spot in competition for a roster spot come training camp. Group three is players who have been in the NFL for a year, but who did not play enough experience to count as an accrued season; these players are largely looking to get an extra few days of practice in before OTAs begin. Finally, there are tryout players. These individuals come to minicamp without a contract, looking to make a mark on the team and earn a spot on the 90-man roster. As of this weekend, the Green Bay Packers have two roster spots unaccounted for, so barring any additional cuts the team’s large group of tryout players will be fighting for that pair of slots. While the Packers typically provide a full roster to the media on the first day of rookie minicamp practice — which will be Friday — we already know the names of several players who will be attendance on a tryout basis. Here are three of those names who should be leading contenders to claim an open roster spot heading into the weekend.Deion Harris, DB, North DakotaA big defensive back at 6-foot-2 and 201 pounds, Harris could be a candidate to play either cornerback or safety. The latter might be the better fit for him given some speed concerns (4.64 40 at Pro Day), but his 3-cone time of 6.84 seconds suggests a change-of-direction ability that could be useful in the slot or covering twitchy tight ends. Harris recorded nine interceptions in college, including three pick-sixes in 2016, in addition to 38 total pass breakups. There are ball skills here to build on.Cole Tracy, K Jake Ryan Jersey , LSUTracy spent one year with the Tigers in 2018 as a graduate transfer after kicking at Division II Assumption College to begin his college career. Over his final two seasons — 2017 at Assumption and 2018 at LSU — Tracy hit 56 of 62 field goal attempts and did not miss a PAT in 109 tries. That’s quite an impressive hit rate, and he seems to have a plenty strong leg to convert from 50-plus yards with regularity. If he does well this weekend, Tracy very well could earn a contract after minicamp and get an opportunity to compete with Mason Crosby this summer. If not, he’ll have another minicamp invite next week with the Saints to take another shot.Jamarius Way, WR, South AlabamaWay could be a nice fit for the Packers, given their recent preference towards larger wideouts. At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, he has a big frame and has used that to make plays in the Sun Belt conference over the past two years since South Alabama moved up to FBS. Way had more than 750 receiving yards in each of the past two seasons, averaging 15 yards per reception for his career. In a way, he’s reminiscent of Geronimo Allison, in that neither player worked out well but both had great college production to fall back on. Even if he’s not an exceptional athlete (4.63 40, 32.5” vert), that production is well worth a look this weekend.

Speaking of pressure, well, the Vikings haven’t been producing enough of it.“Just get him off his spot, you know? Be effective,” defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson said. “Put a lot of pressure in his face and around his legs.”Goff was only sacked once and hit twice in 35 passing plays. With Todd Gurley’s dangerous presence in the backfield, the Vikings simply weren’t able to prioritize rushing Goff over stopping the ground game. With Rams coach Sean McVay cleverly calling a variety of rollout and misdirection plays, the Vikings simply weren’t able to get to Goff in time. That’s one reason why their linebackers, safeties and cornerbacks were out of sorts in coverage all night.“We’ve just got to get in the classroom, fix our mistakes, see what we did wrong and just try to get better,” said defensive end Danielle Hunter Youth Garrett Bradbury Jersey , who has four of the team’s 11 sacks. The Vikings actually rank seventh in the NFL in sacks per pass attempt at 8.4 percent. As in their loss to Buffalo the week before, though, they didn’t deliver that drive-ending or touchdown-saving takedown of the quarter against the Rams when they needed it most.Richardson pointed to the myriad ways the Rams were able to stay a step ahead with their scheme and, essentially, use the strengths of the Vikings against them.“It might look like we’re not pass rushing, but that’s what we’re doing. We’re doing our job,” Richardson said. “I think it can get better.”The Vikings not only led the league last season in fewest points and yards allowed, but they denied opponents on third downs more often than any other team. So far this year, their foes have displayed a desire to call more aggressive plays on second down so as to avoid those difficult scenarios.“It’s harder to get sacks. Guys are scheming so you won’t be able to get sacks. Quarterbacks are aware of that too,” Richardson said, not even mentioning the increased emphasis on roughing-the-passer penalties. “In the schemes, it’s two-seconds-it’s-gone.”Still indefinitely missing defensive end Everson Griffen , while he gets treatment for mental health issues, the Vikings won’t have much easier of a time this week at Philadelphia. The Eagles, of course Mike Hughes Jersey , won the last meeting 38-7 in the NFC championship game last season with the same type of multi-faceted attack the Rams employed to keep the Vikings from digging in and unleashing their pass rush.“The past makes you who you are,” Richardson said, adding: “We have things we need to work on. Now we’ve got to get to it. We’ve got to change those. Otherwise we’re going to get beat again.” If they get on the field Friday night — and most of them are expected to play — a handful of former Vikings and current Saints will see some familiar faces on the other side. The Saints have punt returner Marcus Sherels, center Nick Easton, fullback Zach Line, running back Latavius Murray and, of course, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. This will be the first time Bridgewater has played against the Vikings, who drafted him in the first round in 2014 and let him leave as a free agent two years ago after his massive knee injury altered plans to build their offense around him.More Vikings coverageVikings’ Kearse faces gun, drunken driving charges after arrestVikings’ Kearse apologizes, returns to work after weekend arrestPhotos of the Week: 10/20/19 – 10/26/19Vikings surge into second half thanks to Cousins, CookVikings Snap Counts: Penalties spoil Mattison’s big day“I’m proud of him, for him to be able to come back from the type of injury that he had to still be playing in the NFL,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said of Bridgewater, who is competing to be Drew Brees‘ backup. “It was a pretty bleak outlook for him Anthony Barr Jersey , but that’s the kind of kid he is.“He’ll try and stick it to us, just like we’re going to stick it to him.”Saints coach Sean Payton said Bridgewater is “certainly going to play a lot” in the preseason opener.“I think that a second year into what we’re doing has benefited him and he brings all those other intangibles that allow you to win that are necessary at that position,” Payton said.A priority for the Saints is replacing retired three-time Pro Bowl center Max Unger. Top candidates include rookie Erik McCoy, a second-round draft choice out of Texas A&M; Easton, signed this year as a free agent; and Cameron Tom, a third-year pro who began his NFL career in New Orleans as an undrafted rookie and who has played sparingly as a reserve interior lineman. The stakes are high for Easton, who has a four-year contract worth up to $22.5 million — if he can play well enough to stick around at that price. He also is trying to come back from a neck injury that wiped out his 2018 season.Since Mark Ingram left for Baltimore in free agency, the Saints have been looking for a strong inside rusher who can also catch the ball to complement star running back Alvin Kamara. Murray was signed to potentially fill that role. Returning reserve running back Dwayne Washington is also in the mix.The Vikings will get their first chance to test their new scheme directed by offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski and influenced by offensive adviser Gary Kubiak. Rookie tight end Irv Smith Jr. will likely see significant playing time on his 21st birthday in his hometown, where his father, Irv Smith Sr., once played tight end for the Saints.“He’s swimming, because we’re asking a lot of him right now,” Kubiak said, adding: “But that’s the way it should be. That’s why he’s here.”

a sizable portion of the club’s current salary cap."As things stand right now Jarrett Stidham Jersey Draft , the New England Patriots are approximately $9.9 million under the NFL’s salary cap. This puts the reigning world champion in the bottom third league-wide when it comes to financial flexibility — and that is with both their punter and their kicker still on the open market and six other free agents remaining unsigned. In short: the Patriots have seen better financial days, at least when their cap space is concerned. So how did we get to this point? A recent breakdown by salary cap expert Miguel Benzan of the Boston Sports Journal offers one explanation: the Patriots are too top-heavy at the moment when it comes to the construction of their pay roll. A quick look at the list of New England’s current contracts confirms this, as the team has more players with cap hits of $10 million or more than they have had in the past.A total of five players are above this mark at the moment: quarterback Tom Brady ($27.0 million), cornerback Stephon Gilmore ($14.8 million), safety Devin McCourty ($13.4 million), tight end Rob Gronkowski ($11.9 million) and linebacker Dont’a Hightower ($10.9 million). All five of them are core members of the club both on and off the field, but seeing all of them hit the team’s cap with $10 or more million is a bit out of character.Since 2014 Jarrett Stidham NFL Jersey , the Patriots never had more than three players over the threshold at the same time — something that is also true when it comes to players with a cap number of more than $5 million, of which there are currently ten in New England. Last year, the club had seven such players, compared to nine the year before that and ten in 2016. But of course there is one fundamental difference between all those years: the salary cap itself. The NFL has set the number at $188.2 million in 2019, a $10 million increase compared to last season. Of course there will be more contracts with higher cap hits: there is more cap space available after all. But while that is all true, it does not quite tell the whole story of the Patriots’ current situation. A closer look at how much percent of the total cap space is taken up by the top-10 contracts is therefore necessary.According to Miguel, the breakdown over the last six years shows that 2019 stands out:As can be seen Jarrett Stidham NFL Draft , New England’s richest ten contracts make up more than half of the club’s available salary cap space — the five named above plus the ones owned by offensive tackle Marcus Cannon ($7.5 million), guard Shaq Mason ($7.3 million), defensive edge Michael Bennett ($7.2 million), linebacker Kyle Van Noy ($6.3 million) and wide receiver and the MVP of Super Bowl 53 Julian Edelman (5.4 million). This is also where plenty of potential lies for New England to create space through possible restructures, extensions or cuts. As resident cap expert Brian Phillips pointed out previously, New England could free up additional cap space by converting parts of Stephon Gilmore’s salary into a signing bonus spread out over the remainder of his contract, or by extending Kyle Van Noy or Tom Brady. All three moves combined could create an additional $10+ million for the Patriots to work with.So while they currently have their backs a bit against the proverbial wall Jarrett Stidham Buffalo Bills Jersey , in parts because of the top-heavy nature of the salary cap list, the Patriots can still create additional wiggle room — room that could be used to bring back punter Ryan Allen, kicker Stephen Gostkowski, and other free agents let alone those rookies qualifying for a top-51 contract. One additional note on Tom Brady and his contract, to address some misconceptions: there are rumors that his deal cannot be touched until August. However, according to both ex-NFL agent Joel Curry and the aforementioned Miguel Benzan, this does not seem to be the case. Why? Because Brady did not earn any of his 2018 incentives and his salary did therefore not increase. As a result Color Rush Byron Cowart Jersey , his deal is eligible to be altered right now. It appears the Patriots have decided on a successor for Brendan Daly."After their win in Super Bowl 53, the New England Patriots’ coaching staff experienced an exodus: six assistants left the team, including defensive line coach Brendan Daly who is now serving as the Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive run game coordinator on top of working with the linemen. No replacement for Daly has been announced by the Patriots just yet, but it looks like the team has already made a decision — at least according to one of their players.During his conference call shortly after getting picked by New England in the fifth-round of last week’s draft, Byron Cowart also spoke about a workout he had with an assistant he identified as the club’s defensive line coach:DeMarcus Covington taking over for Brandan Daly should not qualify as a surprise: before joining the Patriots as a coaching assistant in 2017, he worked as co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Eastern Illinois. Before that, the former college wide receiver served as the defensive line coach at UT Martin as well as a graduate assistant at Ole Miss and Alabama-Birmingham.In his new role Youth Byron Cowart Jersey , Covington will now work with a re-tooled Patriots defensive line: the unit saw standout edge defender Trey Flowers and starting defensive tackle Malcom Brown leave via free agency, while the club also parted ways with Adrian Clayborn. Meanwhile, New England acquired defensive edges Michael Bennett and Chase Winovich via trade and the draft, respectively. If Cowart’s assessment of his role turns out to be an accurate one, Covington would become the second coach hired to the Patriots’ defense this offseason: former New England linebacker and team captain Jerod Mayo announced himself as a new member of the coaching staff — presumably to work with the linebackers — in late March.
